Dufy, Jacky Mazel wearing McCardell Cocktail Dress, 1953

Photographed for LIFE in 1955, two years after Dufy’s death in 1953, this image was shot in Dufy’s salon in the Villa de Guelma in Nice. French Model Jacky Mazel wears a cocktail dress designed by American Fashion Designer Claire McCardell. The Fabric’s pattern of sailboats and waves was adapted from a seascape by Dufy. The large painting in the background is “Aphrodite” created in 1935 and re-worked in 1943. All Mark Shaw prints are made to order in limited editions on Hahnemuhle photo rag paper. Each print is Estate stamped on the back and signed and numbered by David Shaw, and accompanied by a letter of authenticity. Lead time is four to six weeks, but we often receive them sooner.
