Claude Lalanne
Bronze Garden Bench
Sculpted garden bench in patinated bronze.
Signed: Cl. Lalanne
French, 1983
This work by French sculptor Claude Lalanne was commissioned in the early 1980’s especially for the garden at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. Claude and her husband, Francois-Xavier, created a series of café tables, chairs, benches and fountains with imagery of reeds, birds, garter snakes, snails and insects evocative of the marshland of the Virginia tidal basin. Photographs of the garden show the benches in situ between rectangular flower beds encircling a reflecting pool.
