Judi Harvest at Liz O’Brien

Liz O’Brien Gallery is delighted to announce that we are now representing the artist Judi Harvest. Judi has a multi-disciplinary practice that includes painting, sculpture, glass-making, and mixed-media art objects. Her years studying and working in Italy, and Venice in particular, have had a profound influence on the direction of her work. She has exhibited at the Museo del Vetro in Murano and  Palazzo Tiepolo Passi in Venice where her Room of Dreams, an installation of Murano glass “pillows,” was exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2015.
Her most recent museum show Cross-Pollination: Honeybees and Murano Glass which opened to critical acclaim at the Coral Gables Museum this spring explored the parallel fragility of the honeybee and the storied
glass-making factories of Murano.
Judi’s imaginative use of materials to explore compelling narratives results in work of fierce originality and spirit.
On view now at Liz O’Brien are a selection of Murano glass pillows representing a variety of historic Murano glass techniques and colors. Skillfully capturing in glass the soft, malleable forms of a bed pillow, Judi elevates an everyday object into an object of delight with an unmistakable air of surrealism. Working in Murano glass, the elegant and traditional material of Venice, to create the Room of Dreams, emphasizes the delicate beauty of life, present in all of Judi’s work. According to the artist, “these Murano glass pillow sculptures are strong and remind us that our dreams are fragile and we must realize them.”
Each pillow is unique from a numbered series of 3 and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
