Samuel Marx (1885-1964) was a renowned architect, furniture designer, connoisseur and avid art collector. Considered a modernist, Marx’s functional designs and decorative elements reflected his subtle yet magnificent aesthetic. A graduate of MIT’s Department of Architecture, Marx began his career designing the interiors of hotels and department stores before opening his own successful firm. Marx amassed his own personal art collection which included works by the likes of Matisse, Brancusi and Picasso; thus he was also much sought after for his ability to integrate art into the homes of his affluent clients which included J. Paul Getty.
