| Jennifer Hickey’s work lures the viewer in with seductive forms that intrigue and confound us by resonating with nature, but also clearly not being what they seem. Thousands of tiny, wafer-thin porcelain pieces evoking petals, feathers, scales, are kiln fired then individually sewn onto tulle netting drawn over a sculptural form. The shapes are ancient and elemental like seeds, spheres, links. Their surfaces, cloaked in a dense porcelain mail, swirl like a unfurling rose or ruffle like a startled bird. The pieces have a soft and appealing presence but also discernible delicacy that halts the harming hand.
